Biographical Sketch

Giuseppe holds the position of Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and serves as the Coordinator of the Health Area within the Life Supporting Technologies group at UPM. Additionally, he is an affiliated researcher at the Group of Surgical Research Innovation and a member of the research commission at the Health Research Institute of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, Madrid, Spain.
He holds prominent roles within various organizations, including President-Elect of the European Alliance of Medical and Biological Engineering and former co-chairman of the Working Group on Health of the Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation. Giuseppe also coordinates the Adherence Action Group at the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing and is a founding member of the "ACTIVAGE.org" association.
Giuseppe's professional affiliations extend to memberships in the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, as well as the Spanish and Italian Associations of Biomedical Engineering. He actively contributes to the Digital Health Division and collaborates with the Health Technology Assessment Division and Clinical Engineering Division of the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering.
In his capacity as Technical Manager, Giuseppe oversees Large Scale Pilots funded by the EC to demonstrate the impact of AI, 5G, IoT, and Robotics on future hospitals (ODIN), develop digital health services for chronic disease management and prevention (GATEKEEPER), and promote independent living (ACTIVAGE).
Furthermore, he coordinates the Innovative Health Initiative BEAMER and IMPROVE projects, fostering collaborations with pharmaceutical, medtech, and biotech industries to enhance treatment adherence and utilize PREMs and PROMs for improved health and social care outcomes.
In addition to his research endeavors, Giuseppe lectures on Biomedical Engineering and Telecommunication Engineering at UPM, covering topics like Clinical Engineering, Telemedicine, Electronic Healthcare Records, and Human-Machine Interaction. He also initiates strategic cooperation frameworks between the LifeSTech research group and key healthcare institutions.
