Abstract

In the rapidly evolving field of biomedical innovation, a range of groundbreaking technologies is set to transform the landscape of healthcare products and services. This presentation will explore the most promising emerging technologies, highlighting how cutting-edge advancements in biomedical engineering are driving these developments. From human augmentation and AI-driven solutions to breakthroughs in bioengineering and personalized medicine, these innovations are poised to redefine the future of healthcare.

The lecture will include a comprehensive review of emerging advancements resulting from the application of the latest developments in biomedical engineering, such as: biomedical human augmentation, digital twins in research and medicine, digital therapeutics, artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data in healthcare, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) in healthcare, telemedicine and smart wearables for health monitoring, neurotechnology, enhanced medical imaging including multimodal and multispectral imaging.

Next, technologies emerging from the intersection of biological or medical sciences and engineering, known as bioengineering, will be discussed, such as: nanomedicine, bioelectronic medicine, organs-on-chip and high throughput technologies utilizing multi-channel 3D microfluidic cell cultures as well as bioartificial and bioengineered organs and 3D bioprinting organ and tissue technologies.

Lastly, the lecture will outline technologies developed at the intersection of biomedical engineering and other disciplines, such as biology (including genetic engineering and molecular biology), medicine, and information technology, will be outlined, such as: synthetic biology, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing, personalized vaccines, omic’ technologies including genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics, immunotherapy, precision medicine and blockchain in healthcare.
